I saw the following question on social media this Morning and it struck a curious chord with me. “What word comes to mind when you feel the presence of God?”
I could make a list of all the things I should say or think I should say, or perhaps the things that would sound cool or sound as if I really had any idea what to say.
Then I thought what would my heart say? That is an entirely different question, isn’t it? In Casting Crown’s song, I can only imagine it suggests that we might be so overcome by God’s Holy countenance that we might not be able to speak at all.
Personally, I hope it would be a more familiar encounter. Perhaps as one friend to another, something like “Oh, there you are, I was missing you, or good morning, Lord, it’s good to see you again. Would I dare to be so casual and familiar to greet a Holy God in such a way? I am not sure but I think it might even be pleasing to Him.
What word comes to mind when I sense His presence? Sometimes there are no words, sometimes He just takes my breath away. Sometimes there is just an overwhelming sense of peace because of His presence!
If I think about how that real encounter with God in the person of Jesus will one day be, I can only see myself on my knees before him, a trembling, weeping, overwhelmed, grateful child of the Father completely, surrendered to His will and way. Have thine own way Lord, have thine own way!
If you encounter the presence of God today, and I pray you do, what will you say?
Yours in the Love of Christ
