Pastor Dick Hurd: Richard Hurd
The Mid-week Message is an On-line ministry Of Pastor Dick Hurd and the Caton Church A Global Methodist community of Faith February 19, 2025
Well friends, winter keeps dragging on. The deep freeze we avoided in January has come to visit in February. Snow, ice and now the wind keeps making life more difficult and we bemoan the drudgery of fighting the weather every day. But you know our friends to the north are dealing with multiple feet of snow. They are having to clear the snow from their rooves to prevent them from collapsing under the weight. In the south they are still struggling with lost homes due to hurricane flooding from last summer, some of them living in tents in freezing weather. Families in California have experienced monstrous firestorms that have terrorized them and claimed many homes and lives in the process. All of this does not even begin to recognize those around the world who are devastated by wars, deep poverty and disease the likes of which we cannot even imagine.
I don’t want to make light of our annual struggle with mother nature, especially for those who find themselves depressed and isolated because of it. However, as the old saying goes, look around and you will always find someone who is worse off that you. Sadly, that is a very true statement. But it is also a well needed reminder of how blessed we really are. Soon the signs of spring will begin to emerge and we can enjoy warm days and green grass once again. But some will still be sifting through ashes for whatever is left of their former lives. Others will still be living in shelters while insurance companies slowly decide their futures and some will still be grieving the loss of precious loved ones.
So, when the winter doldrums get you down, give thanks and pray for those less fortunate, there are so many of them you know! And if you have opportunity to help, give generously. It will make the cold a little warmer and your heart a little lighter, and your witness for Christ a lot stronger!
Yours in the Love of Christ,
Pastor Dick
