We are all familiar with the great hymn of the faith “How great thou art” but I want to explore just one phrase from that song. The writer proclaims in the first line of the chorus “Then sings my soul!” I wonder, what does it take to cause our souls to sing the praises of our God? How deeply are we touched and connected to want to draw praise from deep within ourselves and shower it lavishly upon our creator.
When we are convicted of our own personal failures or made aware of how we have not honored him with our lives and he in turn has forgiven us “again,” then sings our souls.
When we witness the wonder of his grace poured out on us over and over again regardless of our wanderings and unfaithfulness, regardless of our double-mindedness “Then sings our souls”
When we experience the presence of God’s Holy Spirit around and within us, lifting us to an eternal higher place “Then sings our souls”
When we hear that still small voice speaking peace into our lives, and we can feel the exhilarating breathiness that the Holy presence brings “Then sings our souls!”
There are so many times and situations in our lives when we are brought close to the very presence of God and we are compelled by our faith to let our souls sing over and over again “Oh Lord our God How great thou art!
I pray that you may have at least one of those moments today when there is no greater response to Gods love for you than to allow your very soul to sing praises to the God of your salvation!
Yours in the love of Christ
Pastor Dick
