Precious Lord, take my hand! This is the plaintive cry of every child of God as we repeatedly recognize that we cannot do it ourselves.
As we journey through this Lenten season taking notice of our faults and failures, we will undoubtedly come to the realization that what scripture says is true. “With God all things are possible, but with us, not so much. This reality may be one of the most valuable lessons of this season. Acknowledging our weaknesses and vulnerabilities leads us to know that we do need God’s presence and power in our lives every day.
I can only imagine the sheer terror experienced by those in the paths of those terrible tornadoes this past week as they ripped through whole communities destroying everything in their path. I wonder how many prayers were offered, crying out, Precious Lord take my hand! How many anxious, desperate pleas were uttered when it seemed that all was lost. How many faithful souls surrendered their uncertain futures to the will of God in those dark hours? We have learned to seek God when we are in need, when life seems unfair or when we face trials and difficulties. But being God-reliant rather than self- reliant isn’t just for hard times, it is for all times.
Seeking to Take God’s hand when we need to be rescued is wonderful and reassuring but it is a far greater blessing to walk hand in hand with Him every day. Do we seek and praise God in the good times as well as the bad? Do we go to him with thankful hearts when we are battered as well as when we are blessed. Our relationship with Christ needs to be a full-time relationship so that in the dark and in the light our hands and our lives are firmly held in His grasp.
Yours in the Love of Christ
Pastor Dick
