I didn't know he was lost!

I hear people say often that they had been looking for Jesus for a long time before they finally found Him. That makes me wonder, because I didn’t even know he was missing!   Maybe that sounds silly to say it that way but perhaps the reality is that Jesus is not the one who was lost after all.  From the very beginning we read that God came into the garden and called out “where are you?” as he sought out his creations, Adam and Eve.  The reality is that God has been searching for us ever since, and we, like those who were the first of Adam’s race, are hiding from God because of our sin, because of our shame.

And then came Jesus who said, “come unto me all who are burdened and heavy laden.” And so, it begs the question, what are we burdened with?  And, of course the answer is the same as it was from the beginning, we are burdened with our sin. It is the barrier between us and our God.

Jesus offers the solution to that separation if we would only see and accept it. He offers forgiveness and even though His love is unconditional, His offer of redemption requires confession and repentance, and many aren’t ready or willing to take that step.   So, they remain lost because of that barrier and because of their reluctance to call on Jesus’ name to claim that redemption.

It is not because Jesus cannot be found, He is always there, always, available, always just a prayer away!  It is we who are lost and He is still waiting, and He is still calling out “Where are you?  come unto me and I will give you rest, and it is not rest for our weary bodies but rather rest for our troubled souls, souls troubled because of that barrier of sin that keeps us at arms-length from that heavenly embrace.

Maybe it is time to stop looking and start shouting, “Here I am Lord, I need you today, I need you forever!! Come Lord Jesus.

Yours in the love of Christ
