Darkness cannot overcome the true light of the world

Midweek message

The Mid-Week Message is an On-Line Ministry               Of Pastor Dick Hurd and the “Caton Church”                                                      A Global Methodist Community Of Faith                                                 September 10, 2025

I am sure by now you all have been reminded that tomorrow is 9/11, a day that we would like to forget, but never will.  Each of us knows where we were when we heard the news and we remember how impossible it all seemed to us at the time.  We also remember how real it all became because it was the day that our world changed forever by hate.

It was, however, not the first time we were so devastated. Are you old enough to remember December 7, 1941, or November 22, 1963?  If you do remember, each of those were dark days when evil seemed to triumph, when we were sure that our world was forever changed by hate.

Today I want to remind you that there was another day a long time before September 11, 2001 When our world was changed forever by love.  The word of God reassures us;   “In Him (Jesus) was life and that life was the light of all mankind, the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1: 4-5

No matter how many dark days the world sends our way, no matter how much evil causes us pain and suffering, no matter how many devastating dates are forever etched in our minds, the darkness has not, and will not, and cannot overcome the true light of the world.

So, I wish you a blessed, light filled 9/11. In it may you find the light of Christ despite the shadows of past sadness. Celebrate, for this too is a day that the Lord has made.

Yours in the Love of Christ

Pastor Dick
