Do you ever wonder why the world is in such a mess? Author and theologian C.S. Lewis explains his theory on the subject, he writes, the junior devil asked Satan, what is the plan? Satan replied, “Our plan is very simple, we will make the noise of man’s world so loud that he can no longer hear the voice of God!!”
It seems like it’s working pretty well, doesn’t it? Is your world so loud that you can no longer hear the voice of God? It often is for me. The demands on our lives can be intense and unyielding. We have a schedule for this, an appointment for that. Work, civic duty and even church, all make demands on our time. So, what can we do about it? We can’t demand that God should speak louder, nor would we want to. God’s word reminds us that He speaks in a still small voice as He whispers His will into our souls. God will do what God will do!
I think our only choice is to quiet the world’s noise in our lives. Create time and space for that precious and holy whisper to be listened for and heard once again.
The world is not going to be quiet. The noise, the distractions, the worldly enticements with which Satan inundates our lives will continue to try and keep us from hearing That sacred voice. Peter 5:8 warns us, “Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” But our Lord, our refuge says simply, “Be still and know that I am God”
May that quiet voice of God break through your noisy life today!
