I wrote a couple of weeks ago about seeking Jesus and I said then, in a sort of a “tongue in cheek” way that I didn’t know He was lost. I have been thinking more about that issue and I began to wonder if the real problem is that perhaps many are wanting to find a Jesus that fits their own concept of who Jesus needs to be in order to satisfy their particular needs and wants. I still don’t think he is or ever has been lost, but maybe some are wanting a more modern or enlightened kind of Jesus. One who would be in agreement with their own sometimes controversial choices.
Are they looking for a Jesus who would consider the ten commandments to be reduced to the ten suggestions? Do they want a Jesus that would pat them on the back and tell them what they want to hear and reassure them that the rules don’t apply to them because they seem to be nice people? Are they looking for a Jesus that would be willing to turn stones into bread, or one who would choose to forsake the cross and abandon the salvation of the world for his own comfort.
If that is the Jesus you are looking for then you will surely never find Him because that Jesus doesn’t exist! But if you are still searching for the Jesus of the Bible, just open your heart and let Him find you!
