Well, it seems that winter has made an all too early entrance this year.  However, I still hold out a slight hope that we might see a warming trend for a short time. You know, that period of time we used to call an Indian summer “I hear we are not supposed to call it that any longer but I still want to see it happen, whatever it is called.

As I get older, I find myself asking, “where has the time gone?”  It seems that the seasons come and go so quickly.  I came to the Caton Church nearly five years ago to serve a three-month interim appointment and I am still here with no plans to leave any time soon.

It seems like the seasons of life are not determined by age or appointments or any other man-made metric but simply and profoundly by the will of God.  We are under the silly illusion that we are in control of these things, when in reality our circumstances control us.

I had planned to retire fourteen years ago and spend my time traveling around the country with my wife, enjoying the well-earned rest that the world told us was the way it was supposed to be.

But thankfully God has a way of helping us figure out what is really important and where our priorities ought to be. Of course, I hate that Barbara is no longer with me and that loss is an ever-present part of my life but I am also certain that she is safe in the arms of her savior and I am where God wants me to be for this season of my life and that has made all the difference.   Now if we could just do something about this snow!!

Yours in the love of Christ,

Pastor Dick

Breath Prayer:  Lord, help me to accept every season as a part of your creation, both the seasons of the year and the seasons of life Amen
